Our Writers

…are awesome.

Well maybe not as awesome as Betty White.

Put pretty darn close.

Katie Barber: Katie is an attorney by training but a writer at heart. She can usually be found hunched over her computer in her apartment in Brooklyn, re-writing the same chapters in her novel for the umpteenth time. She loves the feel of a book in her hand, practicing yoga, eating banh mi, and acquiring stamps in her passport. You can read more of her adventures at Perky to a Fault.

Deborah Batterman: Deborah spends her days writing, doing yoga, reading,  walking the dog, listening to music, looking for fantastic new meals to replace the ones she’s bored with, providing tech (and other) support to her wonderful (even if computer-challenged) husband, micro-managing her daughter in L.A., and still finding time for laundry.  She especially loves live music (rock, jazz, classical, plus whatever alternative/pop punk musicians her daughter takes her to see), and her friends love the playlists she transfers to their iPods or burns to CDs for them. She recently published a new, digital edition of her short story collection, Shoes Hair Nails, and continues to seek that balance between the longer work-in-progress (i.e., the novel) and the shorter, of-the-moment posts on her blog, The Things She Thinks About  . . .

D. Bianchi: D. is a 30-something freelance writer and mom of three living life in the suburbs of New York State.  She describes herself as a Generation X’er living life and raising kids in today’s new world.  Read more at her blog, Generation X Mom.

Elizabeth Cassidy: As the creator of My Views from the Edge, Elizabeth incorporates humor and empathy into her writing. Her belief is that laughter can smooth some of the mental, emotional and spiritual turmoil that life seems to throw our way and she promises to keep her advice solid and her tongue lodged securely in her cheek. Elizabeth’s good twin is the creativity coach who founded Coaching for the Creative Soul. Elizabeth showers her clients with support, motivation and dark chocolate when needed. Elizabeth is a former comedy writer/comic for WNBC Radio and was once compared to a young Woody Allen. And, no, she is not a short Jewish man. When she is not working on her book proposal, you can find Elizabeth saving the world at My Views from the Edge.

Jessica Safran: On some days, Jessica Safran ghostwrites for esteemed colleagues and runs internal marketing for technology products and services at a very important bank; on others, she writes stories for her consulting clients to help them figure out how to position themselves in the marketplace. In 2009 she entered her first memoir writing contest ever, sponsored by the NYPress, and came in as a top finalist with her short memoir piece, “Marry Me.” She lives in Brooklyn with her husband and daughter, who provide endless writing material.
